Research

Pre-Research

To understand the structure and elements of typography, I designed five glyphs (round, rounded square, square, diagonal, diagonal square). I write about the technology these typefaces were created for, the need for their improvement, the history of their predecessors, and their societal applications. I, also, conducted research to select images to include in the monograph.

Takeaway

The challenge was working with rivers, orphans, and widows in the text, while using images next to them. I learned a lot about the history of typography and why it’s important for the different platforms we have now. Doing photo research and designing a book allowed me to learn the process in editorial design.
